The Winningest Man In Barbeque
The four-time World Barbeque Champion, television host, and bestselling author is bringing his coveted barbeque to Old Town Alexandria. Myron is the only pitmaster to win Grand Championships in Memphis in May, Kansas City BBQ Society, and Florida BBQ Association in the same year. He was inducted into the Kansas City Barbeque Hall of Fame in 2013, and has been ruling the barbeque world ever since.
Myron kicked off his competitive barbeque career in Augusta, GA in 1996 where he took home three first place titles. He has competed with his team Jack’s Old South every year since and has won more than 200 Grand Champion titles and eight Team of The Year awards.
Myron has also published three bestselling cookbooks; starred in every season of the highest rated BBQ TV show, “BBQ Pitmasters,” as well as “BBQ Rules,” “Smoked” and “BBQ Pit Wars;” runs the Jack’s Old South Cooking School, and has a line of barbeque sauces and rubs and smokers on the market.
Joe Corey runs pizzerias, Faccia Luna Pizzeria to be exact. Starting in 1989, with his business partner, Joe opened 3 pizzerias in the Washington DC area while Bill opened 2 in State College, PA.
In his spare time Joe became a certified BBQ judge and has been judging on the competitive barbeque circuit since 1999. There, he met Myron Mixon and the friendship was forged. As an aside, Joe judged finals at the Memphis in May World Championship Barbeque Contest.
PIZZA MAN TO BARBECUE JUDGE
Since 1996, John Bennet - our head pitmaster - joined Joe Corey in opening Faccia Luna Pizzeria of Alexandria, the Boulevard Wood Grill of Clarendon, and helped open Overwood (the current location of Myron Mixon's Pitmaster BBQ). John caught the BBQ bug a decade ago from Joe Corey. Over the next decade, John built a barbeque resume, competed, and judged. He has cooked with Myron Mixon on several occasions and has trained with Myron at his Georgia BBQ School.
